The Miao Lab investigates how cardiac cells communicate, organize within tissue, interact with the extracellular matrix, and acquire and mature their identities and functional states. By studying these coordinated processes across heart development and maturation, we seek to understand how normal cardiac structure is built and how disruption of these processes contributes to congenital heart disease and impaired cardiac repair.
